EP experience in Strasbourg

Good morning everyone!

I’m travelling to Switzerland right now, so I decided to dedicate this time to talk about yesterday since roads are quite bumpy and I’d definitely feel nauseous the second I opened the book. Journey is long, music is good (Hook N Sling ft. Karin Park – Tokyo By Night – Axwell Remix), so without further ado, let’s begin!

We had to wake up at 6am because we were supposed to be at EP at 8am. It was raining. Not raining, it was pouring down. And guess what. You can’t take an umbrella into the European Parliament! Nevermind, somehow I survived and the EUROSCOLA day, a.k.a. work day could finally begin.

First we had to register and identify ourselves with the rest. Since I was the speaker for my country, I had to be separated with the rest of the speakers. So much stress! After a brief breakfast (I honestly hate sweet breakfasts, I’m so not used to it!) we moved further to the hemicycle where the first session began. First of all was a presentation about the EU institutions, then Skype talk with one Spanish Europarliamentarian and then presentation of countries which had been present. I think there was everyone except Portugal, UK, Ireland, Iceland, Norway and Slovenia, Serbia if I remember correctly. We were between the last ones since, you know, Slovaquie. I was almost crying from all that stress (how am I gonna end the uni?), but it turned up pretty good tbh. After the presentation there was a discussion and then lunch. Everytime I visited EP before we had some kind of pasta and I was actually kinda looking forward for that, however, now we got a hamburger. Needless to say, I ended up being hungry all day long. After lunch we were divided into groups we chose before and moved into smaller chambers. I was expecting to be boring for another 2 hours because that’s how I felt everytime before, however, this year I got a great topic (migration and integration) and great group of people, I didn’t even know how those two hours have passed. I even got some Polish and Swedish friends there! After this session we moved with all the other groups into the hemicycle again and discussed individual works of those separate groups. I was learning Swedish during that session (sorry not sorry), because I was too hungry to concentrate. And it was already 6pm, I wouldn’t be able to concentrate neither anyway. After this session we took some photos inside and in front of the building and moved all the way to the city centre. I’ve been to Strasbourg many times before so all I did was just shop some food for the next day in Monoprix. I also had a dinner but it’s nothing to write home about, I didn’t feel like hot & expensive dish (and I don’t like the local cuisine anyway) so I just went to McDonalds and got some fastfood. I even got caramel McFlurry even though I sweared not to eat sweet junk food! But you know….’stressed’ spelled backwards is ‘desserts’, I have an excuse for this outrageous behaviour. We got to the hotel quite early and I finally got some proper sleep, I really needed it!

At the moment I’m travelling the Switzerland where I’m gonna spend another day. I feel like it’s gonna be a great day. I slept for almost 9 hours plus I’m full, that means I’m absolutely contented. I already miss the Netherlands so much now that I’m looking at this depressive German land (no insult meant). Let me know if you know about some good summer jobs in the Netherlands, I’ve already searched probably everything and Albert Heijn is the best thing I’ve got so far.

Anyway, have a great day!
